| I grew up in Benton Harbor, MI, and was led to a life of public ministry partly by the encouragement and example set by my family and the pastor who served us. I spent my primary grade years at Grace Lutheran School in St. Joseph, MI, and attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary for grades 9-12. I then went to Northwestern College in Watertown for four years, and completed my pastoral training at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. My first call to public ministry was to serve Good Shepherd Church in Midland, TX, where I worked as pastor from 1981-1983. Then I received a call to be the pastor of Gloria Dei Church in Grand Blanc, MI, where I stayed until 1988. In that year, I received a call from Riverview Evangelical Lutheran Church in Appleton, where I still serve as Senior Pastor today. My wife Rhoda and I have been married since shortly after my Seminary graduation, and we have been blessed with three children: Jeremy, who is currently studying to be a pastor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary; Nicole, who is a student at Fox Valley Lutheran High School; and Zachary, who is an 8th grader at Riverview's Lutheran school. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing golf, and tending to my family's garden. My philosophy of public ministry has always been governed by a statement made by one of my Seminary professors when I was a student in his class. He said, "Your goal is not to hear people say, 'what a wonderful pastor we have,' but rather, 'what a wonderful Savior we have!'" Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me and about Riverview! |
